The Media Lab Project

A radical solution

Oasis Business Community Interest Company’s (OBCIC) Media Lab Project offers a radical solution to two current and pressing issues in UK society: firstly, reducing levels of long-term unemployment among vulnerable groups, most notably NEET (young people), and secondly reducing landfill waste and increasing recycling.

Our aim is to operate our Media Lab pilot project in Sutton town centre where it will provide a social hub where people can drop in to receive informal learning and technical advice on IT. The Media Lab will become a centre of learning in which people are shown how to diagnose, repair, upgrade, re-use and re-install donated computers, and make it ready as a media platform.

The Media Lab would also be a venue for expressing artistic and creative talent and also a place in which small businesses can operate and be supported.

Specific client focus

Even though the project would welcome anyone, its initial focus will be the NEET (Young people Not in Employment, Education or Training) group. As the project develops, it can work with equal effect with any disenfranchised group needed help to enter the labour market.
